The Role of the BoardThe role of the Board is to provide advice to St James College, appropriate to the academic activities of the College. This advice includes comment on curriculum design and content, course delivery, course assessment, and evaluation of courses. The Board will also provide advice on strategic academic alliances useful to further the overall objectives of St James College. It may provide advice on the appointment of senior academic staff within SJC, or on any other academic matter raised by the Board of SJC. Professor Tom Valentine - Chairman of the Board B.Ec. 1st Class Honours, University Medal ( Sydney ), M.A, Ph. D. (Princeton), FFTAProfessor Valentine is formerly a Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Western Sydney, a position he has held since 1995. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Commerce from 1995-1998. His prior positions include:
Professor Valentine has consulted to the Law Reform Commission on Bankruptcy and Managed Investments, was a consultant to the Royal Commission into the State Bank of South Australia as well as a Senior Advisor to the Campbell Committee of Inquiry into the Australian banking system that led to the deregulation of the financial sector. Mark Euvrard - Director B.Com. Hons (Rhodes), CTA, ACAMark has been a member of the Institute of Australian Chartered Accountants since 1980 and is an Accredited Financial Planning Specialist with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He has an extensive background in managing small-to-medium sized Australian subsidiaries of International Corporations. He was the Australian General Manager of the largest dental equipment manufacturer in the U.S.A., was General Manager of the team which rescued the Spinners Team of Tradesmen franchise from Administration and successfully headed up the company which introduced smoke alarms into Australia. Mark is a Director, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer for The Salisbury Group Pty Limited, which holds both an unrestricted dealers licence and a life broker licence. Alan Manly - Director Alan is the Managing Director of Group Colleges Australia. As Managing Director he is responsible for the corporate planning and governance of the group of companies. Alan has over thirty years experience in business management in industries including, technology and education. He has twenty years experience as a Company Director with private and public companies. He is a former Director of the Australian Council of Private Education and Training (ACPET) and is a current member of the ACPET NSW State Committee. Alan is a Justice of the Peace, a member of the Australian Computer Society and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Gerard Newcombe - Director Gerard has both a Bachelor and Master Degree in Business Administration, and a Diploma in Front Line Management. He also has certificates in Philosophy, English Language Training and Workplace Training and Assessment. Gerard has thirty years experience in international management, marketing and training across the Asia Pacific region. He has Fellowships at both the Royal Geographical Society and Royal Asiatic Society in the UK, and is a Fellow at the Institute of Company Directors in Australia. He also holds Associate Fellowships at both the Australian Institute of Management, and the Australian Marketing Institute. Gerard has a long history in education, having held several Senior Executive & Management positions with prominent educational institutions based in Sydney. He is an accomplished author, having published books on both Marketing and Asia Business Skills, and is a registered Justice of the Peace in Australia. Member of GCA Executive. Kylie Black - Principal My name is Kylie Black and I am the Principal of St James College as well as the Director of Studies of Metro English College. I began my professional career as a high school English literature and History teacher and later became very involved in English language teaching with a strong focus on teaching language to secondary students across curriculum. I am interested in the role that technology can play in education and I actively encourage and support the use of technology at St James College. I have worked at Group Colleges for five and half years and enjoy the challenges that being a Principal of a busy school brings. Member of GCA Exectutive Marion Nassim - Deputy Principal Marion Nassim has been teaching at St James College since 2003. During this time she has taught Yr 11 and 12 HSC ENGLISH and Fundamentals of English. Marion graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education majoring in Linguistics and French from the University of New South Wales. Marion has incorporated technology in her teaching by adding exciting areas to the curriculum, at the same time showing a strong and dedicated commitment to providing St James students with the best possible learning environment.
