About the Sports Scholarships

St James College is a member of Group Colleges Australia (GCA).

GCA is pleased to announce the funding of new Sports Scholarships for Basketball and Soccer.

Applications are now open, and candidates with a strong athletic history in Basketball or Soccer are invited to apply.

Candidates may nominate any area of study within Central College, Metro English College or St James College in which to receive free tuition.

Details of the GCA Sports Scholarship:

1. FREE TUITION
The GCA Sports Scholarship offers free tuition for an initial period of six months in any Course offered by Central College, Metro English College or St James College (subject to the conditions of the scholarship being maintained).

Students may apply for an extension of the scholarship for as long as they:
- continue to show academic progress
- maintain athletic performance
- fulfill the conditions of their visa as stipulated by DIMA (including attendance)
- behave according to the policies and procedures of the College they are enrolled in.

Extension of a Sport’s Scholarship is at the discretion of Group Colleges Australia. The decision is final and may not be entered into.

2. COSTS FOR THE STUDENT
If a student is awarded a GCA Sports Scholarship, they must pay for all other costs associated with their studies. This may include the following:

- Enrolment Fee:
Once a candidate has been awarded a GCA Sport Scholarship they must still pay the AUD$200 Enrolment Fee.

- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):
This is approx AUD$342 per year (for 2007)

- Guardianship Fees:
Overseas students under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian. GCA can provide this service for the cost of AUD$30 per week.

- Visa application and processing fees

- Living expenses:
The Australian Department of Immigration recommends students allocate approx AUD$17,000 per year for living costs to cover accommodation, food, transport, and other living costs.

- Travel to/from Sydney


- Excursions:
GCA recommends students allocate approx $10 per week for excursions and college activities.

- Books and extra study material

Payment of the Enrolment Fee and Overseas Student Health Cover must be made prior to commencement of study.

Fees can be forwarded to Group Colleges Australia by bank cheque, bankdraft or telegraphic transfer to the following account:

The Enrolment Fee is payable once only and is not refundable.

3. MINIMUM AGE
Candidates must be 15 years or over at the time of commencing study.

4. GENDER

At the time of publication, members of the GCA Basketball and Soccer teams are all male, but both male and female candidates will be considered for the scholarship based on individual merit.

5. CONDITIONS OF THE GCA SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP

Students on scholarhip must remain in good academic standing, show academic progress, have a minimum of 80% attendance, and not bring the GCA Colleges into disrepute.

6. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All GCA Colleges/ Courses have entry requirements. Please ensure you are aware of and have complied with these requirements.

7. PRIVACY ACT
- Students are advised that their personal information may be provided to Commonwealth or State agencies and the Fund Managerof the College’s Tuition Assurance Fund.
- A student’s financial and attendance status may be provided to the student’s agent.
- An English for High School / High School student’s financial and attendance status may be provided to a student’s parents, legalguardian and agents.
- In all other aspects, Group Colleges Australia complies with the Federal Privacy Act.

8. STUDENTS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE
Students under the age of 18 years old must have a parent or guardian sign the enrolment form. Students under the age of 18 must live in accommodation that is approved by Group Colleges Australia.
