About Year 10Year 10 marks the beginning of Senior School. The focus for the learning in Year 10 at St James College is on the skills and knowledge that will provide a foundation for successful completion of Years 11 and 12 at St James College. Year 10 is seen as an opportunity to intensively work on these skills under a framework of assessment that closely resembles in structure, the assesment of the Preliminary and HSC Courses. This gives students the greatest opportunity to hone their skills of assessment while learning in a wkde range of Key Learning Areas. As St James is an international school, students who study with us from Year 10 get an extra opportunity to learn and understand basic concepts and historical context that underpin a modern Australian society. This is done through careful emphasis of Australian history, geography, civics and citizenship, as well as an emphasis on the basic literacy skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. These skills are essential for the personal development and the competitive performance of the students at HSC level. It is also clear that student academic performance is aided by physical health. At St James College students also study Physical Development and Health, which focuses on the importance of a healthy lifestyle in life. At the end of Year 10, successful students have fully completed an intensive course of study that simultaneously emphasizes the skills and knowledge required in an environment that fosters individuality, language acquisition and freedom of learning in an inclusive environment.
